Following a request by a Precision Volleyball information collector, Precision Volleyball comes with separate set versions where no colour remains (black and white text only) and all flags have been removed. The corresponding write-up for this non-colour version (NCV) follows:

This set contains all 10 men's and 6 women's teams that competed at the Games held in Tokyo in 1964, with each team receiving team cards and team lists for ratings, as well as player scoring cards (maximum of 13 players included).

This tournament used side-out scoring. For more details, please check the schedule sheet. Some of the team ratings have been estimated from available data. Player ace scoring ranges have been estimated from sideout data, and so will not match (unavailable) real numbers.

This was the first time that volleyball had been an official sport, and all teams played each other with no final or knockout games, with medals decided from the round robin ranking.

The men's tournament saw Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia each win eight of nine matches, and although the Soviets lost to the hosts, they did beat the Czechoslovaks 3-2 (after leading 2-0) and overhauled their opponents on set ratio. As well as losing to the silver medalists, Japan also lost to Hungary, finishing 7-2 and claiming bronze.

The women's tournament was very lopsided, with only one match going more than three sets (when Poland won a third set 15-13 against Japan, who only dropped 11 points in the other three), and the hosts would take the title with a 5-0 mark, finishing ahead of the Soviet Union and Poland who completed the podium.
