This set contains all 8 men's and 8 women's teams from the Paris Olympics, with each team rated for both 1 point and 2 point scoring and allowed, as well as fouls committed and free throw success, with also player lists for assigning scoring.
After defeating Latvia, who had swept the round-robin, in the men's semi-final, hosts France led against fellow surprise finalists Netherlands late in the game. However the Dutch would silence the home crowd, by first tying the game in regulation before winning 18-17 in overtime to claim their first basketball medal of any type. And after losing the semi, Latvia would not even medal, losing to their Baltic rivals Lithuania, 21-18 in the bronze game. Meanwhile, defending champions and long-time titans Serbia would go 4-3 before losing to the French in the play-in game.
There was also history in the women's competition, as Germany claimed their first medal of any type in winning the gold against fellow Europeans, Spain, in a nail-biter 17-16. The Germans only lost once in Paris, to Australia, who were gone by the play-in game where they lost to Canada. But the Canadians would lose out on a medal by losing to the defending champions, the United States, 16-13. The USA's run came to an end to the Spanish in overtime in their semi-final.
The two new champions showing perfectly the great spread of competition for this newer form of basketball.
