Wigan retained their title, winning the league leaders trophy ahead of start-up Hull KR, and then after both teams made their way to the Grand Final - which was the first-time for the Hull club - Wigan claimed their seventh league and 24th top flight title, 9-2.

Underfunded, they would battle to three wins, including two (and should have won the third) against Hull, who continued their calamitous slide down the ladder, also winning just three matches, and would be confirmed out of the league, to be replaced by Second League champions Wakefield.
