After the two teams drew 2-2 in the group stage, Germany met defending champions Belgium again in the final, where after falling 2-0 behind, Germany would take a 3-2 lead, before Tom Boon scored a penalty corner goal in the 59th minute to send the game to a shootout. However, after already beating England on a shootout, the Germans would again come out on the right side, winning 5-4 with Thies Prinz scoring the winner, as they lifted the title for the third time, and first since 2006.

The Netherlands, who had been beaten by Australia and then Belgium in the previous two finals, following losing to their Benelux rivals in another shootout in the semi-final, bounced back to claim bronze with a 3-1 win over the Aussies.
