An intriguing second flight season that may have been the last chance to play in the top flight with the new league, with specific criteria to meet, coming in 2025, Featherstone looked to be heading to 'the promised land' finally, as they won 25 of 27 matches, to finish 12 points ahead of relegated Toulouse, who misfired (especially away from home) to a distant second place.

But their run came to a grinding halt, as London - who finished 5th after struggling to lift themselves clear of the relegation battle for much of the year - stunned them with a 36-26 win in the semi-final. That win came after a 42-0 win at Sheffield the previous weekend.

Toulouse therefore had the chance to return to the top flight immediately, after beating Bradford 38-20, and as the highest remaining seed hosted the Grand Final. But after taking a 14-4 half-time lead, London completed the miracle run to promotion, with a stunning three tries to none in the second half, as they finished off Toulouse 18-14 to claim the title and a return to the top flight for the first time since 2019.

At the bottom, Keighley went down on the final day - solely on points difference of -3 to Whitehaven, who only finished one point behid Barrow, and two behind Swinton. Newcastle were at the bottom for most of the season and were five points adrift. Worse news followed for the North East club, as they would become the third semi-pro club to call it quits (joining League 1 London and West Wales) in a single year.
