In the men's tournament, Australia continued their unbroken record with a seventh gold in seven Commonwealth tournaments, although they had to come from 2-0 behind to beat England 3-2 in the semi-final, before demolishing India 7-0 in the gold medal match. England outlasted the surprise package South Africa 6-3 for bronze, which was the hosts' third straight bronze.

There was a new winner in the women's tournament, with hosts England ending defending champions New Zealand run in the semi-final on a shootout, which also was needed for Australia to defeat India. In the final, two goals in four minutes during the second quarter saw the hosts claim Commonwealth gold for the first time, 2-1. India pushed New Zealand off the podium, after overcoming being pegged back in the final minute of normal time to win in the shootout.
