Following their entry to the 5-Country League in 2021, the South African club sides became eligible for the European Cup for the first time, however it was once again the might of France and Ireland who would make it to the final.

With the three South African sides gone by the semis, the big fight was between five-time champions Toulouse and four-time champions Leinster, and it was the Dublin side who would come through with a 41-22 victory. And in the other semi-final, defending champions La Rochelle would meet Exeter, with the French side storming to four tries in the opening 40 minutes on the way to a 47-28 victory, thus setting up a repeat of the 2022 final.

The Irish side had home advantage this time, after losing in Marseille to a last minute try the year before. It looked like they would make no mistake too, racing into 17-0 lead off the back of three tries inside the first 11 minutes. But La Rochelle would get their way back into the game with two tries of their own before half-time. Then in a tight second half, Georges-Henri Colombe scored the only try with nine minutes to play, and Antoine Hastoy's conversion would again prove the heart-breaker for the home side, as they would claim back-to-back titles with a 27-26 victory.
