This set contains all 12 men's and 12 women's teams who competed at the Games held in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, with each team receiving team cards and team lists for ratings, as well as player scoring cards (maximum of 13 players included).
After losing the previous two gold medal matches, Brazil's men became champions on home court, for the first time since 2004 and third overall (all at 12 year intervals). It was not plain sailing for them, finishing in fourth in their pool, with a 3-2 record, in a tight group that saw Italy, Canada and the United States finish above them. Their 3-1 win over France in their final group game decided who would advance.
But the knockout stage was, as after a 3-1 win over Argentina, they swept first Russia in the semis, and then Italy in the gold medal match. It was the third time the Italians had been defeated in the final. After losing a fifth set to Italy in their semi-final, the United States claimed bronze by winning a fifth set against 2012 champions Russia, having come from two sets down to win.
The women's tournament again saw a champion of 2004 become three-time gold medalists when China defeated Serbia 3-1. And like with the Brazilian men, China came through from fourth in their pool, but for the Chinese women, it was with only two wins. They would shock the hosts 3-2 in the quarter-final, before winning in four sets against the Netherlands in the semi-final, and then the Serbians, who were playing their first final.
The United States denied the Netherlands their first ever medal, with a 3-1 victory in the bronze medal match.
