This set contains all 12 men's and 12 women's teams that competed at the Games held in Atlanta in 1996, with each team receiving team cards and team lists for ratings, as well as player scoring cards (maximum of 13 players included).
This tournament used side-out scoring (first four sets). For more details, please check the schedule sheet. Some of the team ratings have been estimated from available data. Player ace scoring ranges have been estimated from sideout data, and so will not match (unavailable) real numbers.
The men's tournament saw the Netherlands upgrade from silver in Barcelona four years earlier to their first gold medal. Their only loss came in the pool play against Italy, and they would meet again in the final, with the Netherlands winning a final set decider to deny the Italians in their first final. Yugoslavia won their first medal when they defeated Russia 3-1 in the bronze medal match.
The women's tournament saw Cuba win the second of what would be three straight golds, but only after losing to both Brazil and Russia in pool play. They would gain redemption in a five-set battle with the Brazilians in the semis, before meeting China in the final, following their dismissal of the Russians in their semi-final. Although the Chinese would win the first set, Cuba would claim a 3-1 win to retain the title. Four years after losing to the USA in the bronze medal game, the Brazilians would claim their first-ever medal, defeating Russia 3-2.
